BIDs on the Web

Want to catch those Super Bowl commercials that you missed?  Or maybe you were looking for a segment from last week’s City Council meeting?  Or you want to check out that new comedian that everyone is talking about?  It’s all on YouTube.  What else is on YouTube?  We are.  San Diego’s BIDs are featured on a variety of video websites.  And, with over 200 million videos being watched per day on YouTube, it’s a great way to showcase what the BIDs have to offer.

BID Events are popular video topics, like the Adams Avenue Street Fair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78lsB8WXvB0.  This video about the Gesso Italiano (Little Italy’s Chalk Painting event) really hi-lights what the event is all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRu4SVBMcXA.  And, if you missed Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp, you can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T21vCz7dYm4.  Farmers Markets are popular video subjects as well.  While most focus on specific entertainment, this one about the Hillcrest Farmers Market showcases the shopping experience  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQUAYm1Zqe8.

There are also videos about neighborhood identity.  While not focused on a BID neighborhood, this video really shows off what University Heights is all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO_JCqI5YBA.  You can learn more about Old Town here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8St1WROm36I.  There is even a website devoted to neighborhood identity videos, http://www.turnhere.com/city/san_diego/all/films/242.aspx.  This site features videos about several BID neighborhoods, like Pacific Beach, Hillcrest and the Gaslamp.  There are two videos about Ocean Beach on this site, one that focuses on the neighborhood as a whole and one that focuses on Dog Beach.  There are also a few other neighborhoods featured, with great videos about the character of Chicano Park and the Cedros Design District.  With 13 videos about San Diego, this site is a great resource.  Another site that has many neighborhood videos posted is www.vidsit.com.  You can check out pub crawls in the Gaslamp, Adams Avenue and Ocean Beach or you can click on a specific neighborhood to watch individual business video reviews.

And, of course, there are individual businesses taking advantage of the YouTube craze.  Check out World Famous in Pacific Beach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnNJggpaxTw.

The Ould Sod in Adams Avenue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1iibdJM_TI&feature=related.

And the Cottage in La Jolla: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbdZAtPkXCE.  This is just a small sampling of what our local businesses are putting out there!

YouTube has tremendous marketing potential for BID organizations and their member businesses.  The first step is being aware of how our neighborhoods are being represented.  So, check out www.youtube.com and see what you get when you search for your BID.
