As BIDs Grow, Small Business Owners Win

Adams Avenue Business Association Expands to include Kensington

Over the past two years, businesses within the Kensington area petitioned the City of San Diego to extend the boundaries of the Adams Avenue Business Association to extend from the 15 to Vista Street.  These Kensington merchants have witnessed the great success of the AABA in assisting small business owners since its establishment in 1985, and wish to bring the same success to Kensington.  Already a thriving business community, Kensington is home to many eclectic restaurants and retail stores that will add to the diversity of the business district.  By joining the AABA, they will be able to participate in numerous events, projects, and programs spearheaded by the AABA.  Kensington businesses will also benefit from such programs as a BID-initiated local advertizing campaign, the City of San Diego’s Storefront Improvement Program, and the Public Right of Way Enhancement Program.

The final public hearing on the expansion will be held on April 29, 2008.  If approved, the expansion would be effective July 1st.

North Park Expansion Plans

Plans are underway to expand the boundaries of North Park Main Street, to include business owners that are excited about the growth and success that North Park Main Street has brought to the business district.

Ballots have already been mailed to business owners to expand the BID from the south on 30th Street between North Park Way and Thorn Street, from the north on 30th Street from Lincoln Avenue to Howard Avenue, and from the east on University Avenue from 28th Street to the Georgia Street Bridge, and from the west on University Avenue from.

This expansion would add another 300 businesses to the BID, doubling it in size.  Ballots will be counted in May; keep your fingers crossed!
